Homemade Christmas Bags

Trying to get a jump start on Christmas!  Maybe not on buying gifts, but I have started making these cute Christmas bags.  They are great for holding candy or other small presents.  And by making the bag yourself, it makes the gift far more personable!

It's really easy to make - and takes hardly no time!  Take a look at this one.  I've given instructions below in case you want to make one yourself.  All you need is beginning sewing skills.  Give it a try!!

Instructions:

You'll need two coordinating fabrics and some 5/8" ribbon.

Cut out 2 blocks of material - any size you want to make your bag.  These are 9" X 8". You'll need 2 blocks for the outside bag and 2 blocks for the lining (out of the coordinating fabric).

For the outside of the bag, put right sides together and sew 3 sides, leaving the top open. Trim edges.

If you want to have a flat bottom for your bag, you need to square off the bottom corners.  Do this by making  a point on each bottom corner and pin.

Sew across and snip the corner.

Cut 2 strips about 10" long from the ribbon for the handles.

Pin the ribbons on each side of the outside top of the bag as shown and baste across the top.

Take the lining and sew three sides leaving the top open, EXCEPT on the lining you need to leave a small opening at the bottom center of the bag.

Now you want to put the outside of the purse down into the lining as shown below.  Right sides together, and make sure the handles are facing down.  The lining is still wrong side out.  Pin together at the top.

At this point sew all around the top.  Make sure the handles are facing down.
After you sew all around the top, take out pins then pull the bag through the hole at the bottom to turn it right side out.  Sew together the small opening from the lining at the bottom.

Talk about easy - and how cute is this?!  I've been making these all morning!

It rained almost all day yesterday here in San Angelo, TX, but today is promising to be a gorgeous day!  I could never live where it rains all the time.  I've got to have me some sunshine to get me motivated!  So I better get these bags done so I can enjoy some time outside today.

Enjoy your Saturday!
