Free Motion Quilting

This past weekend I had the pleasure of attending a free motion quilting class given by The Quilt Shop in Ballinger, TX.  It was a great class and the teacher was awesome!
I had no idea that I could free motion quilt on my basic Janome sewing machine.  In fact, all that’s needed is a darning foot.  You just unscrew your regular foot and screw on the darning foot.  It was as simple as that!  And away we go!!!
It was so much FUN!  You place your hands down on each side of the fabric and just let your hands guide around the fabric to make whatever design you want.  Of course there are templates you can buy for certain designs, or you can just make your own design!
So I couldn’t wait to get home and try out my new technique.  Most people in the class I’m sure went home to start free motion quilting their quilts.  But not me!  I had to make a HANDBAG!!!
And here’s how it turned out.  Not bad for a first attempt!  So if you’ve never tried this before, go out and buy you a darning foot and give it a try.  You can probably catch another class at The Quilt Shop, or sign up for a class on Craftsy.
